Does the budget include all images or are you providing images? Will you provide the flash? What about SEO? in the budget or outside?

£1000 - an insult! I know there is a credit crunch, but this is taking the biscuit!

I say the above because I know the amount of time and effort serious web developers put-in to keep up their knowledge to ensure they deliver a very good service to clients. I hate it when people think building a website is just copy/paste.

£1000 - do the job yourself mate!

Pixmani looks like a very well designed, well thought out and functional ecommerce. If you want something that is truly 'just like' that then you may want to add a few 0's to your budget. you may get something for £1000 but it won't be anything near pixmania IMHO.

I recommend writing a spec too

you can have something similar to Pixmania.co.uk for £1000 but an exact replica with the functionality and log-in system, payment processing, flash advertising and ofcourse SEO is going to add another '0' on to your budget!!!

download a template online shop from templatemonster or something and work on it yourself. you wont get much change out of £10,000 for something as complex and well layed out as Pixmania.

Increase your budget to around 7.5k and you might get something similar, otherwise you will end up with a bunch of buggy code.

Don't get it...OP

In one thread, you are supposedly closing the company down due to a VAT audit and a reclaim for £11k
In another thread you want to buy an airline? ( I presume that this is an aircraft based one.. and not an airline that you need to fill up your tyres/hot air baloons etc)

and now a website :)

Can't be bad!!

£1000 is going to buy you an install of the software and a custom template to its looks nice. Beyond that anyone who promises anything near pixmania is going to let you down big style.

Pixmania will have several full time developers working it in, fixing it, improving it.

As a business doing well through the recession I would like this opportunity to say that I am intretsed in this project!

I have a fabulous team of developers and the estimated turn around time on this would be a month or less.

Get in touch if you wana chat?
:)

It certainly been an interesting debate. Or should I say argument.

It is all a bit worrying as the OP is shutting down his company, and is trying to get back VAT whihc is not his, it is the LTD companies...plus the audit will surely show that the OP has paid the VAT in the first place so why shut the company down. Why worry about the VAT refund as the administrator will sort that!!!

So how safe is the £1000.00? Why would you need the developer to become an employee? If you can afford an employee go to the local college and employ a youngster cheap and enthuiastic!!

How many freelancers would want to become an employee? they wouldn't be freelancers if they were??!!!!?!!

Wether £1000 is under budget or hugely under budgeted, you have under budgeted for this development. And even with Magento you would still need to treble this figure and that would be for a standard functioning e-commerce site. Which is what pixmania could be as I haven't checked I couldn't say.

You would definitely need a lot more to include SEO. As having the best site in the world costing 100's of thousands, would mean nothing to the search engines if the site was not developed with SEO in mind, along with off-site seo/marketing.

I'm locking this thread until I sort it out. Then I'll open it again for comments but if it gets personal again and goes downhill again, it'll be deleted! Another example of a member asking a straightforward question only to be pulled apart and ridiculed.

Ok, thread tidied up, personal insults have been removed and members responsible dealt with. I'll open it again and watch this space!:D

Can I also point out that some of you have had your posts deleted from this thread as leaving them in would have left them with no context due to other posts being removed. Similarly, members who posted 'quoting' some of the personal insults made by others have had their posts deleted too. Was unavoidable, sorry.

Regards

Ray
