Lots of replies but no prices,

I may be after one too, I recently attempted to do my own which I posted on here and got a mixed response. It was my 1st time using illustrator I suppose, I think il stick to photoshop for now at least til ive got more time to learn. Between MCSE and trying to read a PHP book justnow and my brain is pickled.

I prettey much know what Im after but just lack the illustrator skills and time to make it work.

Chris.

At the risk of sounding boring..lol..because I have posted this quite a bit before, I use http://www.daffodil-design.com/

Very reasonable in cost, very good in design.

It's very unlikely a professional designer will quote without taking into consideration the client's design brief.

It's like walking into the showroom and asking "how much is a car?"... you'd get some pretty blank stares! ;)

I know a very good logo designer -- but she's not a UKBF member. You might like to wait and see if a member can do it; if not, PM me and I'll give you her details.

As for price, you can pay anything from £100 to £1000 depending on what you want. You will find designers who charge less because they are often working on borrowed (a euphemism for 'stolen') software and they'll give you a logo which depends heavily on tone and whizzy graphics, which you can't resize easily, which needs to printed in full colour, which dates quickly...

An experienced designer will charge you more because they are not only charging you for their technical design work, but also their thinking and planning time. They will ask you a lot of questions about your company, your values, your target market, your budget, what stationery items you need. Plus, most importantly, they'll ask how you plan to use your logo ... so that they can make sure that it is readable in all sizes and in all uses: black and white, on a fax, on a website, on a business card, on the side of a car, on television... you get my meaning.

Your logo has to be adaptable, it has to grow with you. That's not a simple request! But the logo you end up with will often be quite simple and elegant; and often witty. Perfect for every occasion and for your target market. That's no mean feat -- which is why excellent logo designers are rare.

Whoever you choose, make sure they give you a logo which is in eps format (for uncomplicated resizing); and which can be colour matched in both CMYK and Pantone (so that you can print in one or two colour, should you choose to do so).

If I can help any more, let me know.

Hi Eagle

I sense you may also have met the client who wants a logo for £75 then? (Including artwork for comp slips, letterhead, business cards.)

Oh, and then ask for all the artwork files to take on CD to their own litho printer...

Very inspired words from Julie, thanks

I think il go back to the drawing board so to speak and have a thurough think about what I want from my logo. I still have my ideas though I think il just work on them a bit more.

Regarding my earlier post, I wasn't after an exact price just a rough idea at what people charge for logo design.

Chris.

What's the score with copyright on those? - does the client get full rights when the project is complete? :)

Hi Mark, actually theres no 'project' as such - but theres 2 purchase options, one proviging a level of exclusivity of use...

NON-UNIQUE PURCHASE: (Actually quite cheap)

Non-exclusive purchase means that other people can buy the template you have chosen some time later.

UNIQUE PURCHASE: (More expensive)

Exclusive purchase guarantees that you are the last person to buy this template. After an exclusive purchase occurs the template is being permanently removed from the sales directory and will never be available to other customers again. Only you and people who bought the template before you will own it.

So theres a difference in using a template logo or website rather than having your own one designed by someone like yourself Mark where the service is alot more personal and copyright is allocated to your client on completion :)
