Hi

I have a domain hosted by a company in NZ which is ICANN registered (it's a .com).

They have been asked for and not sent an auth code. Without the auth code godaddy can't pick the domain up - I need it transferred and the loosing registrar is just stalling and stalling.

Is there any way I can escalate it?

Thanks

Kevin

Who is the actual domain registrar (Nominet, Tucows for example) and do you have your login details for the registrars site? If so I believe there is a way to escalate it through them and even transfer it from there as well.

There also may be 2 steps required - firstly the domain may be locked to prevent transfer, you should be able to unlock this through your/their control panel. It is more than likely locked to prevent transfer.

Secondly how have you requested the Auth code? Often this is an automated process via your/their control panel and it is simply issued to the registered e-mail address for the owner of the domain. They may not respond to simple e-mail requests

Finally you can't transfer a TLD (Top Level Doamin) if it is newer that 60 days or within 7 days of redemption - is this the case?

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this.

Had mega problems with this co. before but owner of this forum removed my postings with a polite warning so I wont name them.

I did some research on the web about ICANN and what help there is. It takes a while to solve so better done diplomatically and cost free if possible I guess.

My account with the registrar was unavailable recently so was going through their support - guess they were offline backing up at the time or something. Since my account it is now mysteriously available again I managed to get the auth code but still could take 5 days if they wont authorise the transfer manually (it will happen automatically apparently if nothing happens).

What a pain!

Kevin,
Practically speaking its not like something that someone's physically sitting there and don't want your domain to lose.
Few things you need to check carefully that the email address you registered with the company is actually active and you are able to receive emails from that company.
Then check if your domain is not in Locked state.
Sometimes the transfer code is already generated (but if domain is locked you can't see the button) and you've to go in control panel to pick it up.

if you need any further help you can always get back to me, I provide domain and hosting services as well as web designing and development.

Check that the domain is unlocked.

In my experience I've had to initiate the transfer a good few times between the domain being locked (despite showing in my CP unlocked), confirmation emails not being sent / going into junk, etc etc.

After about the 4th or 5th time I've usually got there.

2 domains I decided to move as well today and as a result of this are indeed unlocked. The critical domain is "pending transfer" but any attempt to 'unlock' the domain is results in an internal error on their server. It's not clear what status it is at and they wont respond to communication.

I've got about 3 tickets open with pacnames now for one domain, the tickets just thank me and tell me they are escalating it then they ignore me until I open a new ticket and the cycle continues. Theoretically in 5 days it will transfer automatically but I need it now to set up SSL certs in prep for a competition next month.

Each time I called by phone they didn't answer.
The live chat support is probably a turin machine - I put a copy of the chat below for amusement - though it took about 8 minutes and resulted in nothing. They claim to be in touch shortly but they have not communicated anything to me.

I filed a mild complaint with icann but I think I will have to come up with a variant on the name - because, looking at the problems on the web others have had with pacnames, it could take up to 5 months to resolve this.

I noticed pacnames are loosing a huge amount of business to godaddy and others. The problem is that pacnames dns are not compatible with Amazon EC2 DNS which instigated the move.

You are now chatting with LiveSupport

LiveSupport: Hello Kevin
LiveSupport: How may I help you today?
kevin yeandel: Hi, can you please complete the action of releasing ifullpower.com
LiveSupport: Please post a support ticket regarding this to us and will update you on the ticket.
kevin yeandel: I have. I repeatedly get messages from "robert" et al telling me it's been escalated. The problem is it never happens and this has been going on since sunday. I will put a ticket in again anyway but I really need the transfer to take place in the next few hours.
kevin yeandel: As it stands right now theres a problem at pacnames that is preventing it happening and no way through the UI that will allow me to manually push it through.
LiveSupport: Sure
LiveSupport: Okay
kevin yeandel: Is this a computer I am speaking to or a person? I have created the ticket as discussed
LiveSupport: Okay. Our admin will update you shortly.

Pending transfer to me means that the transfer has started to take place or they're waiting for further information.

The expiry date will also affect the transfer - I don't think you can transfer in the 30 days leading up to renewal, but I'm not solid on that.

Theres 1 or 2 years on each domain. Moving the lot.
Lady there very helpful this morning but still whois the same.

Godaddy says its with the loosing, the loosing say it's a Godaddy problem. Stalemate.

It should go across automatically in 5 days but pacnames say they have emailed godaddy - it's all a load of cobblers really. So far, godaddy has never let me down, I think I've learned the simple rule: Don't go with registrars which hold a 0.015% share of the registration market.

It shouldn't take "hours" of emailing, phoning and raising support tickets to transfer a domain.

How long overdue the transfer time is it?

You are aware it takes about 5 days?

I could be misinterpreting things but the live status from GoDaddy is:
Step 3: Accept/Decline The transfer is waiting for the customer to accept it at the losing registrar. If the customer does not accept the transfer at the losing registrar within 5 days, the transfer will be accepted automatically.

Which implies either
(1) the loosing registrar does something on my behalf (because the feature is not available to me "the customer" to "accept") or
(2) I wait 5 days - I assume the 5 days you speak of?

The loosing registrar tells me godaddy has to pick it up and until doing so theres nothing they can do which implies (1) above is not a feature available from pacnames or they have sent a transmission of some sort to godaddy which has not been received/processed.

I'm also told by pacnames it's nothing to do with them any more which implies their part is done.

I started this on Sunday so it's now on the 5th day but might be the clock starts again today after all the problems.
