Hi there,
I know there are threads out there, but they are a little old.
I was discharged from bankruptcy in April 2008.
I set up a ltd company in September 2008 which has laid dormant since because I cannot get a business bank account.
I have tried Alliance and Leicester and was turned down.
Anyone had any luck with the major banks?
I think I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place as Natwest and Barclays were creditors in the bankruptcy, so I cannot really apply to them.
I know it's going to be a nightmare now with the recession.

Try Co-Op bank. They certainly provide accounts for non-discharged bankcrupts so they might be able to help you.

Thanks, the unfortunate thing is looking at their application forms they need more than one director, I created my company when the choice was added to have a company secretary or not.
So I'm just a sole director.
Would it be better if I went in person and spoke to them?
I already have a cashminder account with them.

Hi.
I was in the same position. And believe it or not I found a bank who not only welcomed me with open arms... but gave me some credibility with suppliers.
Harrods Bank of Knightsbridge.
Their service is every bit as good as you would expect.
Good Luck

Hello
Have you got a personal account open with a bank? If you have you could try there first as they may be more keen to open a business account for you.
Hope this helps

Natwest offer what they call a 'Step' account for personal use which isn't credit checked and offer the same type of account for business
I know you say they were one of the creditors when you went bankrupt, but they can only say no so worth a try given you are struggling to get an account...

I applied online to HSBC and they turned me down, is face to face a better option?
