I always think its a good idea to share with people when you have seen a good product. I do not have a fax as mine coughed, splurted and died like a bad actor in a B-Movie.
Efax basically turns a fax into an email and viseversa so there is no need for a Fax Machine and all that paper work.
Anyway there is a free months trial and if your interested visit there site at www.efax.com

This might help someone else out there, so thought I would mention it

Hi Michael,

I use a fax to email service as well. I don't actually do enough faxing to warrant buying one at the moment but the fax to email system does the job ok.

Thanks for the link, Michael, I'll try it. Don't do much faxing either, but worthwhile to explore the costs and facility.
Cheers, Nigel

Hey guys,

Just to let you know that I also do a FAx to email service that is much cheaper if i say so myself. One of them are actually free.

All you do is get a UK number and have people send faxes and you receice it as an email in 1 of 3 formats(PDF,DSX,TIF). We also do voicemail to email and will soon be doing email to SMS.

Take a look and tell me what you think...

I am looking for a way to get and send faxes through our PC. We already have a fax number that we would like to keep. Is this possible, and can anyone recommend the best way to go about it?

If you are using Windows XP, it has a built in fax - I use it to great success. You plug the modem into the fax line and set up the fax software in XP to your preferences and you're away.

I always type my fax in Word then print to the fax rather than mess around with the cover pages in the XP fax.

Thanks cox. That seems exactly what we need. What kind of modem do I need on my PC?

Just a standard 56k will do

Hi CoxAdmin,

That made me laugh! It just goes to show what extra useful features you can find when you actually read the instructions to your new gadget!!

My fax machine has not worked now for some months and as I don't use it that often at the moment, I haven't replaced it. I have Windows XP and hadn't discovered the fax. You say that you just plug in the modem. I have broadband for my internet etc. and I have a dedicated telephone number for my fax. Would you be able to tell me in brief how to do this? Can I use my phone line? Or is it already set up through Broadband?

Confused

You need a separate dial up modem which you can pick up for about £10

You need to plug the new one into the phone part of the ADSL filter

Then set up the fax service

So I attach a dial up modem to my dedicated fax phone line and then plug it in to the computer?

Is that it?

Kate :?

It certainly is.

Then you'll need to go in to the Fax and set up your preferences - you'll find it in Start, Accessories, Communications, Fax. When you print to fax, you enter the number you want to send the fax to and follow the on screen wizard.

I find it's straightforward to use.

Excellent - thank you very much for your help. I will get on and set that up, that has saved me the cost of another machine, maybe I will read the instruction in future, like everyone else!

This forum is GREAT

Why bother? I just press buttons and look around to see what I've got - then I look at Help when I get stuck how to work it out. I love exploring new software!!!

I have messed up so many things doing that! I have many gadgets and software requiring my attention at the moment and no time to sit and work them out - it's ridiculous really.
