We operate an internet job board called www.appointdirect.com that has been developed specifically with assisting recruiters and business managers in mind. Having read many of the conversation topics on this, and other discussion forums, online recruitment seams to address many of the issues raised.
In the UK the most commonly adopted approach for candidates to seek a new career or work is via the internet, yet many companies do not advertise themselves on the internet therefore they leave this huge talent pool for the benefit of employment agencies. We do not allow agencies to advertise on www.appointdirect.com as candidates prefer to apply directly.
As an alternative to conventional methods such as advertising in the press or using an employment agency it can both streamline the application process (filter out irrelevant applications) and provide considerable savings in recruitment overheads. This is also a very different approach to listing current vacancies on your own website hoping that potential employees will stumble across your site.
What are your views and experiences of using online job portals and why do you think that it has not been widely adopted within the SME business community?
