We are in the middle of the recruitment process and one of our candidates has 2 companies on his CV now closed, one is Woolies.
How do you get referene requests from closed companies, he has offered name and addy of previous manager, but this could be anyone.
Ideas ???

Well you can't really, a contact of a previous Manager should be sufficient. Most companies will only confirm dates of employment these days anyway.

he could have been in the jail !! any name he gives could be friends or family.

Anyone can do this whether the company is open or closed. Contacts move on and companies don't always keep records after a certain time.
If you've got doubts then don't employ him....

This is exactly the situation I was in, both of my previous jobs I had been made redundant from and the companies had closed. I asked a recruitment agency about how could I provide references etc, the answer was that so long as I could prove i worked there for the periods on the CV it would be OK (payslips/P60/P45 etc)

I like that last reply Midgetman, didnt think of asking for P45/Payslips/P60 etc.

yeah, payslips & P60 are a good one, never thought of it either, but it should do the trick
