I am about to build an online store using LiteCommerce. Does anyone have any experience in using this?

I have started looking at the payment gateway and was going to use Nochex, however I have noticed that you can only use UK registerd credit cards, and being that I need to take purchases worldwide, this changes things. Can anyone recomend another payment gateway that would be suitable, is tried and tested and is cheap!

By using a payment gateway to take the card details and process the payment, I take it that I dont need a SSL server certificate?

Any help/advice on this matter I would be very grateful for.

Thanks

if you use a 3rd party processor they will process orders on their servers using their SSL, you may however want to have your own on your order page where you will be collecting names, addresses etc.

PayPal and 2checkout are two well know 3rd party processors that are quite reasonable, worldpay has better rates but is more expensive to setup.

I set my brother (http://www.moorebooks.co.uk) up with LiteCommerce for his specialist book shop. It is practically a vanilla implementation so that he can manage it easily. He processes credit cards offline with a terminal as he also sells at various events and my phone. PGP encryption is used to store the credit card information, no online processing.

He has been very happy with this solution.

It would be helpful if you expanded on your comment somewhat. You appear to be offering an alternative product so it would be easy for us to jump to the wrong conclusions regarding your motives for making such a comment.

Regarding whether or not it is the best software to use, I am sure it isn't. How could anything be "best"? It is a relatively low cost generic application.

As to whether or not it is fit for purpose is another matter. In addition, my personal experience of the support on LiteCommerce (and its sister product, X-cart) has been very good. Since posting my earlier comment, I have had two other businesses I am involved with build sites using this product - using rather more care and attention than my brother was able to muster - with very satisfactory results.

There are many good ways to sell a product and or service - This is NOT one of then. Why is your shopping cart application suitable for his needs?
