Exporting to Spain

Later this year I hope to move to Spain and start a new business there selling specialised sports equipment. If I import the goods from the UK to sell in Spain what tax/duties will I have to pay (bearing in mind I will be a Spanish resident), ie VAT, import duties etc.
If I import the goods from the USA to sell in Spain, what tax/duties will I have to pay.
I know that I can buy the goods cheaper in the UK and USA than I can in Spain but need to know if any duties I have to pay will cancel out the extra profit.

May be worth looking at the british expats forum, and asking there (as some will be running a business). However you may find it better to ask general terms ie not let on you're going to be importing sports equipment.

Importing goods from the UK into Spain you will not face any import duties or taxes as the goods are moving within the EC.

I strongly suggest that you use road groupage transport as its alot cheaper and takes approx 2/3 days for delivery to your door.

Regarding import duties and taxes for goods coming from the US, I'm afraid I do not know this. Although the EC is meant to be one market, it still upto the county to levy is own duties on imported goods from outside the EC. Regarding the VAT, Spain I believe is 16%.

If you buy goods in the UK to sell in Spain and you do not register for VAT in Spain (i.e. have a Spanish VAT number), your supplier in the UK will have to add UK VAT (15%) to their selling price to you. If you have a Spanish VAT number, your UK supplier can sell goods to you without adding on the UK VAT. You would not have to pay any import duty on goods imported from the UK to Spain.

As has been previously mentioned, if you are importing goods from the US to Spain you would have to pay duty and VAT. I would suggest you speak to a Spanish customs clearance agent when you are there.
