Started 3 windowcleaning rounds with my mate last year and we are having a go at our own accounts and returns to save money in these hard times. We use my mates car to get around and we have kept fuel receipts but obviously my mate uses his car privately aswell. Do I claim capital allowances on the car and add back a private percentage or should we put in some charge for mileage instead and not put his car in as an asset? Apart from our everyday consumables, what other expenses can we claim for in terms of cleaning/laundry, use of home etc that HMRC will allow us?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you read the notes on the self assessment? This will give you a good idea.
You should probably just claim the 40p per mile (for first 10,000)
Are you self employed or a partnership?

we are a partnership and we haven't kept a mileage log so don't know how much we have done

a sensible estimate should be enough
