Can anyone point me in the right direction in getting our website listed, we are successfully running an adwords campaign (thanks to help from this forum) and now need to know how i get listed on the major search engines ie when searching using our company name. I have registered with google and such like around 6 weeks ago, but still not appearing. :x

Eg. when i type in a company name they all seem to list down the left hand side of the page and this is what i'm trying to achieve when typing our company name, any help?

If you can help in basic terms as I am completely new to this and trying to get my head around the whole thing it will be greatly received.

Thanks,

Anne :)

Hi

The site is not well optimised for search engines to spider. Firstly the site is using JavaScripts for the menu, Google or any other search engine spider will not follow links such as these because they can't. I would advise redoing the menu into regular html <a href... type links - and you can get a similar roll-over effect by using css (Cascading Style Sheet) on your links. Far neater way of doing things. I could if interested send you a template of a better way of doing it??? with the css file aswell - I already have something that looks a touch similar, you just edit it to however you want.

I would start to use a signiture in forums such as this. Submitting your site to google is almost worthless. I would advise you to get your link in as many places as possible and google, and the like, will naturally find you and probably spider your site much quicker.

Submit to as many directories as possible. I have a list here that I found the other week

whoever put this together has too much time on their hands :)

All the Best

Hi Phil,
thanks for replying, when i go into 'front page' there seems to be no options to change the menu bar?? it seems to automatically use java script. When you suggest a new template do you mean change the whole web site .... ahhhh?
thanks,
Anne :D

The menu still uses anchors, and the preset images all have accurate alt-text. The navigation menu won't trip up spiders. Javascript menus aren't a problem so long as they have adequate none-Javascript alternatives (yours does).

It's fairly pointless getting your site to appear number one in the ranking for your own company name, with something as obscure as noise air consultant this will probably happen without any optimization. Anyway, in order to do it quickly change your title tag to "Noise air consultants - Home page" Add a meta keywords and meta description tag. Make "Noise air consultants" the first bit of text within each tag. Increase the occurrences of "noise air consultants" on your home page so it appears a few times. Do all of those and you should top Google within a couple of months. As I already said though this is a waste of time and you should be optimizing your site for terms that people are typing into Google that are specific to your product.

Hunny - I checked on Overture and there were NO searches in May for 'Noise Air Consultants' IMHO it is totally pointless optimising your site for these words.

I did a little digging around for you and the following are the amount of searches on overture with their respective keywords...

375 acoustic material
238 acoustic consultant
56 acoustic consultant uk
270 acoustic door
47 acoustic door industrial
74 acoustic insulation floor
57 acoustic floor
1295 acoustic ceiling
1036 acoustic ceiling tile
744 acoustic ceiling removal
552 acoustic ceiling repair
386 acoustic ceiling panel

I suggest you optimise your pages for some of these suggestions.

Hope this helps,

Rob

5000+ sound proofing :D

Nice, but not very specific and a big fight in terms of getting to the top of google.

My first thoughts would be to recommend going for the real targetted stuff like..

56 acoustic consultant uk

Very specific, less competition and probably easier to get higher rankings in Google for this keyword phrase.

Not a big fight as the top few site are page rank of 4/5 which is attainable with a few months work. Not that you would only optimize the site for one key string anyway :) "sound proofing UK" is at 50+ searches. I would pepper a lines like this throughout the front page.

If you want acoustic sound proofing then noise air consultants UK are your best choice. We have 30 years of experience, yada yada...

Vortex is good - (You'll also notice that webit.net is on there!)

Stick it on webit as well - Yahoo and MSN live on our site.

Hi Anne

An important point to bear in mind about Google is that it now often takes 6 months or more for a new site to appear in its listings.

Although it may hold your pages within its index, it has introduced a probation period for new sites in order to limit spam.

Follow the advice above, but be patient with Google. You will receive hits from Yahoo and MSN in the meantime!

Srivvy - mind me asking where you got this info?

I'm not questioning you by the way, just interested :)

Cheers,
