Special Business Cards required

Hi,

I am looking for a printing company who can also do stamped out shaped business cards.

Im after a business card based on the silouette of a car rather than a boring rectangular one, also printed on both sides. I assume it would be printed then stamped out somehow.

Are there any firms who do this kind of thing?

Hi Luke,

For this, you first have to pay for a die tool to be made. The cards are first printed and then die cut. This type of produce we can help with but don't expect it to cost next to nothing.

The info is at the office and I cant get hold of my business partner. Sorry...I am sure some other forum members can do this too.

We have a selection of standard cutters. Should you select ones of these then there is no tooling cost. If I remember correctly (not in the office with all the info) we have circular, radius corners, one radius corner, leaf shape or oval cutter etc.

There is one other consideration. Cards which don't fit easily into the card holder/folder/index go into the bin. There is nowhere else to put them.

Biz cards of a different size or shape were a fad a few years ago. Those of us who tried it soon found out that fitting in - to the card holder, wallet and so forth - rather than getting in the way when the recipient is looking for something else - has its advantages. I got only a cost, no benefit, as did most of the others I spoke with who had tried to be trendy.

A rough guide for the making of a die would be around £60 ish to produce a die, then every run of die cutting out would cost about £50ish.

So you will have the price of the printing and then these prices in addition to it.

It is something I have done, but would make sure you have all your business cards done at once, ie all the names with as many as you can afford to keep the unit price of the cards lower.

That doesnt sound too bad, but I think Calibre's point is a good one so Im not sure it would be a great investment. I just wanted to make the card stand out a bit.

Well I can certainly round corner one or two corners, or all for very little cost on the printed cards. I have round cornered a card for a client a month or so ago and with one corner done, it looked really nice. A little bit different to other cards.

I definately think you should go with standard business card size, one that can easily fit into your wallet / purse / pocket. I wouldn't spend the extra money going for the one your talking about for people to just throw them away because they're more of a nuisance

Yes that's why our shaped cards always fit within the 85 x 55 still.

Some of the cards on it are cut out, they are all for designers though. I was messing around trying to figure out what card with a car cut out of it would look like, it actually seemed quite a complex shape to work with for me. Trying to cut it out simply but still make it look like a car/look good was a challenge.

Will be interesting to see what you come up with in the end.

What you are asking for is exactly what my firm use to do.

2 methods you can use diecutting or ram punching both have their advantages. Ram Punching is best for very large quantities.

You need to consider if the cards will be laminated and what thickness so that the cards do not crack.

who ever designs your cards also needs to have knowledge on how to lay it on the card so that it fits the press with ease and does not cost you money in wastage.

Dies start from £75 upwards. Normally their would be a charge for setting up the job on a plattern and the actual run itself. this does not include the print run.

i have a few contact that do this but tbh i would need to know the shape before hand, the less points the cheaper it will be so maybe just have a normal shapped card with an obvious roof line at the top.

We do spot lamination which enables your logo or image to stand out from the rest of the card.
Instead of special shapes and expensive die-duts why not consider highlighting the pertinant message or image through spot lamination.
