Right, I tried to search for this using the search facility but it appears to be broken.

I'm based in the northwest (Liverpool) and I've been looking for a college course that details how to setup and run a business with no success - I'm currently a project manager but would like to start a photography business.

There's lots of courses about business administration but they focus on the day to day running of medium to large businesses - I want to know how to do things from the ground up?

Does anyone know of such a course and if so, have they attended and was it useful?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Mark

Have you tried your local enterprise agency? The ones around here (Ribble Valley / East Lancs) offer free courses if you are looking to start up in business. There may also be grants available but it's usually a postcode lottery.

Try your local business link.

How does business link work? Do you go up to their offices to see them? There's one in preston which isn't too far away.

I booked most of my Business Link Courses online. I can't speak highly enough of the Kent Business Link. All the workshops are free and it is a great way of networking as well.

Good luck.

There are many facets to starting and running a business. I fear any college course would be less than specific and probably not a great thing to do. You can learn masses of things just by asking questions in forums such as this and by searching online for the things you need to know. You can find things about the Admin, and the marketing side easlily online and in forums. Legalities are best left to a lawyer, so what else would you need to know apart from the specific skills to do the job in your chosen industry, which presumably you should have anyway?

Cheers all, I'll look into BusinessLink and what they offer.
