Just wondering if there is a forum specifically for web developers?
I am thinking about having a medium sized website built (including a comprehensive chat system) and I wanted to discuss it with people that know about these things.
Thanks

There are many. Most have "Star Trek" in the title though...

oh, my mistake, it wasn't zeno's question - all he can do is have a dig at us, the techies! bear in mind that I.T. is the last man standing - in the west, commercially speaking. internet "geeks" are now the only way this country is going to become rich again!
okay dude. here's the tech forums i know and some tips on em
webmasterworld - very very good tech info, very very unfriendly environment, no signature, no linkdrops, no jokes, no politics - just plain old technical talk, jargon - probably a fair few hackers lurking in the mist
webmastertalk - very very good webdev info, very brilliant collection of knowledge on money-making online, the best specialists and mods at that site know how to convert copper into gold - i have 1000 posts and a high rep there, but in the end got banned for taking a chauvinist homophobe racist tech-illiterate fool to task - but the best mods and users of the site still stay in touch
digitalpoint/arsepoint... some kind of mainstream rubbish you should avoid - more likely to know about star trek than technology - zeno would be at home there
hack forum - don't join it, but read it - it can teach you:
(a) how to break into anyone's forum
(b) how to break into anyone's email
(c) how to break into anyone's website of any kind
(d) how to break into anyone's pc
(e) how to do all kinds of crap - infinite time at cybercafes was something i spotted the other week - i'm waiting for someone to put up a tutorial on getting infinite oyster-card credit
and those are the key ones
if you search for
forum
and for say...
web development,
(or phrases like that), you'll find lots of forums on techie stuff, but the ones i've named include the most mainstream mega forums of all
what area of development are you pursuing? it's a tossup between webmaster talk and webmaster world, depending on whether you are having trouble monetizing or having trouble building... or indeed both.

Smashing Magazine is a great place for design-related stuff.

Just google about webmaster forums and you would find few of them..and there are millions of forums which aren't popular yet so don't know much about it..
webdevforums, daniweb, webhostingtalk( more related to Hosting) ..It actually depends on your specialization..!

If you aren't anti-Microsoft then have a look at the MSDN forums
