Well - September 18th is almost upon us! Well, not for most of you lot but it means there are only 8 weeks left of training for me.

On September 18th, I shall be taking part in the Great North Run, a 12.8 mile run from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to South Shields.

This year, I will be running for 2 charities:

1. HCPT - Handicapped Childrens Pilgrimage Trust (http://www.hcpt.org.uk) - a charity that takes children on pilgrimages to Lourdes, in France; so as to provide them with different care and attention to that that they get at home, and also to give their parents and carers some well-earned respite. To take a child is very costly as due to a child's disability, expensive hotel facilities are required, and also, for every child, 2 carers are needed. This cost is paid for by the trust itself and not the parents. The carers normally pay for themselves although some trust groups subsidise this slightly as the cost for the carer can be around £500 for one week of extremely hard work! I will also be taking part in a 50 mile walk over 2 days in France next year for this charity.

2. Edwards Trust (http://www.edwardstrust.org.uk) - I will be donating the other half of any sponsor money raised to the Edwards Trust. This charity cares for, and offers support to parents of terminally ill children, or those going through the bereavement of a child. The charity is one quite close to my heart at present as a colleague lost her baby after just 6 weeks last year, with the baby passing away 2 days before Christmas, having never been out of hospital since his first. Karen, my colleague, still finds this very hard (understandably!) to deal with and only recently returned to work, only to take ill again as a result of the stress that it has caused her and her partner Clive. Karen and Clive would not have been able to cope without the help of Edwards Trust. Karen's father recently cycled from Lands End to John O Groats for this cause.

How can you help? - I hope the above doesn't feel as if i've tried to emotionally blackmail anyone, but that's the nature of the charities and i just wanted to get that message across. I'm looking to raise as much money as possible and invite anyone to contact me regarding sponsorship. The benefit being for you that your name will be splashed across my t-shirt and training top when i do the run, to be seen by around 45,000 other runners and numerous spectators, both live and on television internationally. For a web-based company, this could be a particularly effective marketing method.

I've not set up any 'packages', if you'd like to sponsor me, please get in touch via my email, simon@cupras4less.co.uk, or otherwise PM me on here.

Hope to hear from people soon - all support greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time in reading this.

Simon

I'm only talking like £20 here to get a mention on my t-shirt!

Not looking for hundreds!

Come on guys! Wallets out!! Cheap marketing to be seen by about 44000 people, plus 300k spectators, plus around 5million on TV worldwide!

Can you guarantee that 5.4 million people would see my sponsorship?

Only joking, I will speak to the boss (my wife) and see what she says.

I'd like to see any of you guys wearing one of those lol! Come on, let's have something for the girls for a change!! Perhaps I could put a model on my website introducing the Matrixx Thong??? lol!

I'd be happy to set up something on my website, ie a link to a sponsor form or something where they can donate...

Thanks guys!

Rob - sorry - need somewhere to put my waterbottle!

Don't want loads of names on the T-shirt.

Just looking for maybe 5 URLs something like that to go on the back. Main sponsor to go on the front but this will be around my number anyway. To be in their colours mainly. Then maybe one sponsor on each sleeve.

Already have 2 URL's for on the back, looking for another couple. Imagine running 13 miles behind me (and there will be some people behind me - probably not many though!!) - 2 hours of staring at a URL with very little else interesting to look at. If you have an interesting URL, you're sure to get a visit to your site from that. May then lead to a huge lucrative contract that will change your life forever!!....

Otherwise, you'll just be helping a couple of great causes!!

Michael - would the poll be 'hand friendly' or am i likely to get covered in splinters??? May consider it - will try a run in the morning with a broom handle and see if possible!

Jayne - that would be great!! Will see what i can find! Thanks!!
