Hi guys,

Last night we had a fairly successfull gig night at a local venue, hower we had some complaints reference the venues rules saying that all coats had to be put in the cloakroom at a cost of £1, they say this is because having coats laying around in the club has caused arguements in the past with people sitting on other peoples coats. However i think this is simply just a money spinner and was wondering if anyone knows if they can legally do this?

Thanks

Craig

Yep they can legally do this.. they have the right to refuse entry to anyone wearing a coat that does not get it checked in, and the user has the right to refuse to accept the ofer of contract (not go in).

Hi Craig,

I think that is a good idea for costs to be locked away because if they are lying around say one of them is on the floor and sum1 trips because of the coat and brake their ankle then its that club that can have legal issues pressed against them.

So I think it is a good idea, I am not sure if it is legally law to do this but it is a good idea.

I think it is a money spinner aswell but a good idea to gain money and its also caring about health and saftey of staff and the public that go in and out of this club.

Cheers

I dont no about making profits out of placing peoples coats away so people dont danger them selfs and others but charging more then £1 is abit insane.

Whats the terms about sticking the coats away, What happends is some1s cost has gone missing or you have lost a coat.

Cheers

Standard practice. It's a little bit of health & safety, a little bit of fire regulations and a little bit of contributions towards overheads.

Craig, which venue was it at?

Alot of venues have this in place as a joint money spinner and to save health and safety issues and also theft. Most venues do it and they also have staff to cover.. sometimes you can negotiate a better hire fee if they make x on the bar or inc cloakroom but ive never heard of anyone getting a cut of clockroom money.

I want in scrapped all together which the venue has agreed to. I never made any money out of it all and didnt want to. Either way my poor audience where being conned out of a pound and im not happy with that!
