Hi

My wife has an Asus mini laptop that runs on linux and we're having compatibility problems with it.

How do we go about removing linux and adding and replacing it with a windows operating system?

I think they used linux becuase it is lighter on the system, windows will kill its speed.

Depends on the spec. We have one of the original Asus Eee PC's with XP Pro plus office 2003 and it runs fine. I stripped XP down and removed all the components and services that aren't needed. Wireless is more stable than it was on the pre-loaded nix OS.

XP uses around 100Mb of memory and 1Gb disk space.

Its amazing what you can do with nLite and a bit of know how!

Why take a step backward, just post your linux problems here and we will try and help. Don't go back to the dark side.. ;)

Isn't MS discontinuing XP support? That is going to cause problems for people who have jumped to XP on the smaller machines.

If you want help with a Linux distro, then this essay is interesting:

The community obviously does help, but they are not a help desk, they will help you if you ask an interesting or relevant question. Hardware, you will tend to get help from those with the same hardware.

Yes and No.

Until W7 is released they can't dump XP due to the Vista issues but they will still provide updates for a good 2-3+ years at least.

What is XP support? For most users it doesn't exist anyway. The only reason that I can see for moving away from XP is hardware support (i.e. XP drivers don't exist for a system or peripheral).

However, back to the system in question. What are the Linux compatibility issues that you are having? Are you trying to run Windows software on Linux or are you trying to use a certain item of hardware?
