Hello!

Ok so ive always wondered why on earth these massive sites... facebook, youtube... bebo , twitter are worth absolute millions

I mean where is the stream of income, its free for everyone to sign up, i appreciate that it has massive traffic every hour. Is it through advertising that they earn so much ? ive had a couple of ideas of social sites but never fully understood how to make it profitable, im missing something :)

You're not missing anything, as far as I understand it the majority of them aren't profitable in the normal sense and run on venture capital.

Facebook tried a while ago to record people's shopping history and sell it to advertisers but the users understandably weren't happy with that.
