I was wondering if you could recommend a good server company for my website www.flatmaterooms.co.uk It's current visitor numbers are 500 + a day
With the current server I over estimated the initial amount of vistors and am paying too much
Backups would be helpful too

Do you require a server or just hosting?
If that is the case then what Bandwidth and Space do you think you will need?
Cheers
Dave

You should have stats for how much bandwidth you are actually using plus you should be able to tell what mem and processing resources you are using as well
Also what OS are you using, is it unmanaged or fully managed?
Do you actually need a dedicated server or would shared hosting do the job? 500 visits a day is low

This sounds like far more than you would need for only 500 visits a day, that is the type of server spec we use for shared servers with many thousands of visitors per day.
You really need to look at how much space your site takes up and how much bandwidth it consumes, these things should be available via your logs.
I suspect that you are well within shared hosting limits and probably would be fine on a shared hosting server. Maximum would be a VPS which would bring down your bills considerably.
The exception is if you are using a LOT of space 50GB+ then your likely to need at least VPS or semi-dedicated server.
Your welcome to take a look at our plans.

I was just checking some of the site stats on our servers and many get much more than 500 visitors per day and typically use less than 50MB of bandwidth per day (1.5GB per month). Unless your an image or media hosting site I doubt you'll need anything but a medium sized shared hosting account.

3,000+ Visits/Day | 600+ Unique Visits/Day = 1.7Gb/Day BW

Hi Dwebs,
Are these his numbers? Is he hosting with you?
This numbers do not really add up. Each visitor would have to be downloading at least 500KB, okay so the guys homepage is 300K but even then with likely most people never going past the home page and the rest of the pages being much smaller I don't see how how he could be using that much bandwidth per day.
In any case that is still well within shared hosting limits, our £32/m top tier reseller account offers 60GB per month (£24.38 if you pay annually) and if he optimises his homepage then he can easily more than half his monthly bandwidth usage I suspect..

Seems he must have over used his bandwidth, can't get to his site now... :-p

No the site isn't hosted with us, figures were just a sample from a site we host that gets 500+ unique's a day.
We don't auto suspend sites that go over their limit either disk or bandwidth :)

Okay right gotcha, still I think that is a not a typical amount of bandwidth for that many visitors (page view numbers or even hits would be much more telling) but it all depends on what the site is about etc. I suspect with the OP they use much less bandwidth than that and so wouldn't need anything like a dedicated server.. Having said that the OP would be well advised to optimise their homepage, it should easily be under 150K..

PV = 44K, H = 194K (you should be able to work out the type of site easily enough from the visits vs unique visits)
Its not on a dedicated, simple shared hosting.

Yeah they could, 105kb JS, 158kb Images

Flog Flog Flog. Impress Impress Impress. Yawn Yawn Yawn. You've bored the OP to death, guys, and the rest of us with him. His eyes have glazed over. He's gone to sleep. You've lost your sale.
He needs shared hosting and a massive reduction in costs. That's all he wants to know. Nothing too demanding about it.
Flat-Mate-Rooms, get in touch with any of Stugster, CarlCSNM or me. Your problem will not be such to any of us.
