Hi,

I would be interested in hearing from a good SEO provider that maybe looking for a project on the side. I am just weeks away from launching a new site and looking for someone to cover the seo side of it on a profit share basis.. Hence the more work they put in, the more fruitful it should be.

The site aim is for national coverage, so i will need some with the experience to put a long term plan in place and help grow the site. For more info please PM me with a bit about you and what you can offer.

Which sort of hints that the whole thing is pretty much doomed. SEO needs to be implemented at the beginning of the design not after the site goes live.

Are you expecting the SEO company to redo all the page titles and headings, rework your content, look at your anchor text and navigation, fix the code, adjust the page structures and so AFTER launch?

profit share is a no no really. % of sales, fair enough, but 'profit' can be manipulated in oh so many ways.

If the SEo deal is 50% and he/she brings in £100,000 in profit from sales online, but you spend £90,000 on a whim like a new car for the wife, some advertising in a mates magazine (which he gives you a massive kick back on as the mag doesn't really exist etc), the the Poor SEO ends up with 50% of £10,000 which is a pittance.

If you are looking for a deal with an SEO it has to be on clear terms, not a share of profit from the company. That said, I am happy to take on deals like this, as long as they are worthy. If the proposition isn't worthy, then no good SEO will take it on as it will not be worth their while.

No proposition... no worthiness :p

I wonder if I should try getting my mechanic to fix my car and pay him for every successful mile I do afterwards :|

i really dont know what your issues are.. you are actually commenting on a project that you dont have a clue what its about yet.. i am happy to give % of sales... maybe someof you guys should of aprroached me for more info being presuming stuff.

And if thats the case, i feel that i wouldnt wish to work with your style anyway.. this is a serious business offer...

I did ask for more info :)

ADDED: I think the phrase that threw me was 'profit share' this normally applies to after tax profits of the company, rather than % of sales value!

A high percentage of no sales is still nothing.

The problem with this type of proposal is that it is almost impossible to present it in a manner which is fair to both parties.

The sales of your new business will depend a great deal on the amount of effort you put into it. If the SEO bod invests his or her time into your business but you decide to sit back and watch what happens which results in no or few sales then the risk is all the SEO bods.

On the flip side, if your sales race away to £25k a month which you feel has come about by your own direct efforts and not those of the SEO bod, are you really going to give the SEO bod a nice big chunk of your hard-earned money for minimal input?

I can understand you wanting to minimise your start-up costs but if your business does have potential you are ultimately going to pay significantly more than you would by simply hiring an SEO bod to do their thing on a service provision basis.

Otherwise it suggests that you are not that confident with your idea and therefore want to share the risk?

never a problem there as the SEO retains control of the site, and if thats not possible its easy to plant a few bombs to keep everyone honest.
