Hi all,

My idea is very much still in the research stage. It is a bit like a swaping site for DVD's, CD's and games where registered users can list there items for sale setting a price using credits (which they would purchase from the site). If another user wants that CD, DVD or game they can opt to purchase it at the price set by the seller or offer a different price.

At the end of the day it would be up to the seller to decide if they wanted to sell the item at that price. If they do they can accept it (or offer a new price). If the members in question reach an agreement then the exchange begins. The selling member sends the item to emtigo and emtigo would check it (to ensure it is a genuine copy) and forward the item on (paying for the second lot of postage).

As I have already said at the moment the idea is still being researched but the domain has been registered.

Thanks for reading this lengthy introduction :)

Hi Welcome :)

I look forward to seeing your site up and running - an interesting concept - with the right marketing it could go a long way!

Thanks for the idea I think I will make that site tomorrow :D

Keep your ideas close to your chest ;)

No but seriously I am not going to steal it, you never know with some people though, all is fair in business forums and love.

Hi and welcome.

Like the idea. As you're a trusted source it limits fraud and makes folks feel easier still about buying online.

Other issues to think about are liabilities when the product is in transit, how your postage costs might rise with increasing success, etc.

However, by limiting the product range to CDs/DVDs to begin with these issues are somewhat more deterministic.

Agree about keeping the idea close to your chest.

May also want to use a web based survey tool for your research. Ask generic questions relating to folks using the service without giving the game away - e.g. "would you sell unwanted CDs/DVDs if there was 100% guarantee of no fraud....whatever"

Thanks for the words of wisdom, I will certainly think about your thoughts in keeping my future ideas a bit more close to my chest.

I will look into conducting general market research online - i think it will be useful.

Thanks again

That's a great idea, and I wish you luck. Keep in mind that "every successful venture begins with a dream that requires determination, passion, and the willingness to grow if it is to be fulfilled"

That's a quote from Don Soderquist in his latest book "The Wal-Mart Way", written based on his tenure as Vice Chairman and COO. This is a great book for anyone who currently owns or is thinking of owning a business.

Ah, but if you did, he could now claim copy write infringement as you've taken his idea. Only patents need to be kept secret until pending.

We did have an idea to dream up loads of business schemes, post them on the web and wait for people to come up with similar sites and go after them if they got successful for a breach of our copywrite. But then we got 'proper' jobs.

Quite a number of books encourage you to share the idea rather than keep it to yourself, two schools of thought.
