Hi Folks :D
I'm not sure how many people on here actually send out montly email newsletters etc but i'm looking for some tips on their structure etc? Any tips you can give on what to put in and what not to would be great.
It would also be useful to know how people have got individuals to opt in. I think the key is to make the newsletter worth reading but it's not as easy as it sounds!

Offer people something; either tutorials, useable information, or money-off offers.

For some ideas feel free to have a look at my past newsletters and you'll see how it has developed from a single pager to now 4 pages (and time consuming to pull together!) http://newsletter.quickformations.com/
A lot of the contributors to my newsletter I'm sure will be happy to allow you to reuse some of their articles on your own newsletter, afterall its all free publicity for them!

Thanks for all the comments so far. A few comments if I may.
I get your newsletter Ozzy and will admit that it's one of very few I actually read so your model is something I have looked at.
My market is however a local market and I really think I need to keep it relevant to the lifestyle management sector. I think content is king with newsletters but I can foresee problems with trying to keep it fresh after maybe six issues or so.
I'd like to try and be innovative with the newsletter so that people will forward the thing on but there is a balance in there somewhere between blatantly plugging yourself and making it relevant, interesting and entertaining.
