1) Submit your top level domain to search engines. Example, google, Yahoo and msn.

2) Submit your top level domain to The Open Directory project.

3) Build links to your website so you will maintain a high ranking in the indexed.

Hope it helps.

I'm interested as to the question as well now. I know roughly what it was, just where was it asked? Going slightly off-topic though, has anyone honestly seen DMOZ update since about 6 months ago?

dmoz is a joke, their FAQ basically says don't bother asking us why your site hasn't been to our directory for at least 2 years. Yeh no problem dmoz, I will be in contact then!

Hi all
Does anyone know how many times you have to submitt a website to google before it is finally added there?
Been trying to get it listed there for months, no joy yet :-(

i dont even bother submitting sites to google any more. just get a link to your own site from someone who is already in google and when that one gets crawled it will follow the link to yours and crawl that one.

i know it is easier for me as i operate multiple sites but it is well worth doing. check out some of the search engine tips in the forums.

I agree - submissions can take months, a link will show your site after googles next crawl (which, incidently, is every few months ;)).

I have pages on a couple of sites that are crawled every 5 days or so, sometimes it takes a while but we have managed to obtain listings in as little as 4 days.

Unfortunately the control of Google is yet to fall into my global domination plan, but we'll be adding it shortly :D

If you have been trying to get your site listed in Google for months then you might want to consider the possibility of your site having been banned. I have never had a site take and more than a few days to get it's bum onto Google.

To find out definatively if Google knows about you; type in your full URL into Google and search.

www.your-url.com

then Google should come up with a link to your site and this bit of text

Google can show you the following information for this URL:

with more links underneath.

now if when you say listed you just mean for certain keywords then post your link and I am sure someone can give you some suggestions.

I agree with LT that it is not worth submitting your website to the likes of Google, instead just get other sites to link to your site and before you know it .... you're listed!

As for DMOZ, as it is a volunteer operation where people give up their spare time to add your sites to it, it is considered a "privaledge" rather than a "right" to have your site listed on DMOZ so to speak. I am an editor on their myself, and I only log into the system no more than once a month really to check on any submissions. Out of all the sites I have to go through on DMOZ, for every 1 site that is legit there is 20 that are spam one way or another (ie. a site that is already listed has setup another 20 sites for themselves in an atempt to get listed).
Each site that is submitted has to have a WHOIS check, their T&C's read through, contact information checked, IP address of their host checked, and a dummy order placed to see the name of the company tacking payment. Each site takes about 30-45 minutes to approve. That is why it takes a long time to approve a listing on DMOZ.

By the way people,
We all know that Google is thee seach engine to be listed on, thee site everyone uses to seach the net.

But what about getting listed on others life, Ask Jeeves, Lycos, Yahoo, Alta Vista etc?

How easy is it to be listed with them, or do they list in the same way as Google?

Just create a site with good, original content and spend time link building. Forget about being listed :P
