Hi, I'm looking for advice from people who have used eBay and amazon for selling.
Basically I'm becoming more and more annoyed with eBay and thinking of heading to Amazon as an alternative.
How have your sales been for each and how do they compare?
Many any advice very much appreciated
many thanks

I think it will depend on your product, Amazon has gone into several new markets over the last couple of years, and although I sell on there I do not get anywhere near the results I do on ebay.
I do know several guys selling electrical items who rave about Amazon in comparison to ebay, I particularly like the fact the end client actually buys off Amazon, so any problems Amazon sort out for the client giving a lot of confidence in the whole site compared to ebay.
With ebay positioning itself to now bring on board huge clearance sites at preferential rates and discounts, with their products featuring high in all searches compared to the smaller sellers, the whole platform will be flooded over the next two years to the detriment of existing users.
I would recommend you try Amazon and work on your own site in the meantime.

:)Hi,
I have used Ebay quite a bit in the last few months and sold quite a lot! However, I have also used Amazon a few times. I am now opening a shop on Amazon. I have recently been advised that Amazon is a better market place than Ebay as there are more people looking for new items at medium prices rather than on Ebay where there are often 2nd hand items and they want to get a 'bargain'. Also, with Amazon you do not need to wait for an auction to end if you put your items on auction rather than buy now!
Hope this helps a bit.

As I predominantly buy I have a preference for ebay it would need to be something very special to use amazon. its not as trustworthy in my mind as ebay.
I do buy from amazon proper but not the other services.

Strange, since it is Amazon you would be buying off it if it is listed on the site, much safer than ebay. You pay Amazon who then pay the merchant, as safe as houses.

I did setup on Amazon with some stuff but didn't get any response. Also when searching Amazon for my stuff I didn't seem to come out on the main list...I was in some kind of secondary bit. Hmm...maybe I hadn't set it up properly.

What's the scenario for problems and customers wanting to return/refund on Amazon?
Do Amazon check with you that the item has been returned or returned in good condition etc
And do Amazon refund the full amount to the customer including postage?

Managed entirely by the vendor-upon receipt of returns, the vendor can refund the xost of the product only or inclusive of postage. Amazon only get involved if there is a dispute.
FWIW, Amazon works better for me, ebay people tend to want something for nothing and I am not prepared to get into pointless pricing wars with people. I sell less, but at a higher price:)

Also, the ebay customer trys to scam a bit more, using the negative feedback tool to drive postage tool, or get something for nothing.
AND, if you ever ship with no tracking the customer will come back, claiming it never arrived almost every time, then your done.
And, its easy to get banned for poor feedback, negs left by 15 yr old kids because the shoe never arrived within 3 days, even though they ar in the states, all sorts of horror stories, i hate ebay at the mo
