Hi

Every now and then (but becoming more and more) when I send an email, everything looks fine but as soon as gets into sent items or the recipient receives it they see it as loads of questions marks and the odd 4 or 5 and I can see it in my sent items as this......as below: I cannot type after this on this messages because the text is then back to front???? I have done an example in normal letters after the symbols which says Hello, my name is Kelly.

Hello, my name is Kelly

I know this is an outlook issue but I have posted on over 15 IT forums and no one can help

Thanks

Under Options--Mail Format--International Options, the preferred encoding
for outgoing messages is "Western European (ISO)". Also in this dialog box,
the first two options ("Use english for message flags" and "Use english for
message headers on replies and forwards") are unchecked. The Encoding Option

Under Options-Mail Format-Internet Format, the HTML options button "When an
HTML message contains picutures....." is checked. The Outlook Rich Text
options is set to "Convert to HTML format", Plain text options automatically
wrap text at 76 characters, and the "Encode attachments in UUENCODE...."
option is unchecked.

Additionally....the default for "Compose in this message format" is HTML.
The option "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages" is
checked, the option "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to read Rich Text e-mail
messages" is unchecked.

It sounds like you're sending HTML emails which are being encoded in UTF-8 rather than the ISO text encoding. The bizarre characters are basically just characters that UTF-8 doesn't recognise.

It's possible that you've got something within the email HTML header that's still set as UTF-8.

Are you using "Stationery" as a background for your mails? That might be doing it.

If you go to Tools > Options and then click on the "Mail Format" tab, have a look at the following :

1) Message Format : Send in this message format should be either "HTML" or "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format".
Personally, I prefer using the Rich Text, which eliminates a lot of the hassles.
2) Stationery and Fonts : Have you got a default stationery set ? (Use this stationery by default) Try sending a mail with no stationery.
3) Fonts :
3a) Choose a font for composing a message. I normally use 10pt Arial, but you may prefer something else.
3b) Stationery fonts : Select "use my font when replying and forwarding" or "always use my fonts" rather than "use the font specified in stationery"
3c) International Fonts :
3c1) Font settings should be Western European
3c2) Proportional Font should be Arial
3c3) Fixed-width font should be Courier New
3c4) Font Size should be Medium
3c5) Default Encoding should be Western European. If it's not, select it in the font settings box, then click "set as default"

Somewhere in that bundle of things to check, you should find your problem's been fixed.
