I am Jo Johnson and have spent some months lurking on this site gaining expertise in all areas in readiness for setting up my own site. At last it's here..... [url]www.planetfleece.co.uk
There is a revival in home crafts; celebs are knitting on film sets and trendy types have been spotted knitting in bars. So I hope to add sewing to the new craze with a selection of easy to sew, contemporary designs to suit all the family. I am also publishing ideas and projects with easy to follow instructions to encourage even the most needle-phobic to have a go.
Have a look and tell me what you think......

Hi Jo, what a cool site - and really timely - it seems to be the cool thing to do at the moment - one really minor point - my first impression was that it was for children only as the feature product bow dew my eye in!
The rest looks really good - best of luck

Hi Jo,
Welcome :)
I hope things go well for you!
I too got distracted by the left graphic - peoples eyes generally go topright - them middle left then bottom right so try and get links and your best sales messages in those places ;)

Thanks guys...all inputs gratefully received; the offending graphic is now removed until I can come up with a more considered 'feature product' mechanism.

Your not kidding! My whole family has become knitting crazy. I love your site, although it all looks a bit small to me, especially the writing. Maybe it's just my eyesite? :)

My girls love making things and sewing but I never have time or energy to do it these days.
Good luck with the site but I will make the following comments...
Splash screens are not a good thing.
The text is far far too small. It makes the site really uncomfortable to read.
The text colour is also very very hard on the eyes and doesn't provide enough contrast when reading.
I found the navigation very confusing and it seemed different from page to page.
I got confused about the sewing for kids. I was looking for stuff my kids could sew but kept finding kids clothes I was meant to sew.
I think I just found the navigation too hard and the text too hard to read. After a while I began to wonder if there was a site selling this stuff that was easier to use.
However you are in luck - this seems to be a market which is served absolutely abominably online. So you should do well.

Hi Jo
I fully agree with the comments from SillyJokes.
It can be difficult to get visitors to your site, so on their arrival, it is important to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
The combination of the bright green on white and small text in some places, such as the news page, makes much of the information uncomfortable to read.
Try to establish a consistent font size, ideally no smaller than that of the homepage, throughout the site. Try out a few colour schemes and ask for opinions from friends or people here on the forum.
Best of luck!
