We've heard this story time and time AND time again, and it never fails to amaze me how under-hand some businesses can be when dealing with Internet newbies.
Someone new to selling online signs up to an Ecommerce service. That Ecommerce service creates a shop for them but they then go and register the shop owners web address with themselves as the owners, i.e. the property of the Ecommerce service provider
We've just heard of another first hand experience of this deceitful behaviour (http://www.auctiva.com), this time by Auctiva.
Before signing up to any hosted Ecommerce service or commissioning a web design company to create your shop, always ensure that they are buying your business assets such as web addresses with you as the owner, not them. Or better still, buy your own web address first to make sure you are in charge of what happens to it
