View Full Version : Postcards or business cards?

Would anyone with experience in this area be able to advise whether postcard sized handouts or business card handouts are more successful. I was thinking of full colour glossy images on the front with black and white description text and contact details, URL on the back.

Thank you.

I would say you need to test both out.

To similar markets, maybe 100 - 500 of each sent at exactly the same time.

100 would be better if you can afford to do that many!

Then see the results for yourself.

Be sure to include a small tracking code on every variation of marketing you do so you can really see what works and how long it takes to work!

Thank you for your reply.

The tracking code you mentioned, how is that used? You can tell I am new to this!

Well for example on some business cards I have (not for Matrixx Hosting but for one of my other companies) we have a 20% discount for quoting code UKBF1 for example.

The code UKBF1 would simply be recorded in an excel spreadsheet as a code on 100 cards given out on 13th June 05 at a business networking meeting.

Then when enquiries come in they will always give the reference as it entitles them to a discount :)

This can be modified for classified ads, flyers, yellow pages ads, local newspaper ads, cards you give to family, leaflets, maildrops, email marketing, affiliate referrals etc etc

You can then decide if to re-advertise with someone in particular, get pointers to where to try advertising next, match geographical areas with advertising techniques ..

Just to add to Rob's advice - put something on the back of your business card that will give people a reason to contact you i.e. to generate leads.

For example, I have all my contact detials on the front of my business card, and on the back I advertise my free marketing newsletter. That way, if people aren't ready to 'buy' just yet, they are quite likely to sign up for the newsletter.

So, is there anything you can provide that will give people a reason to want to visit your website?

Hope this helps

Hi,
Basically, for what you are doing, the bigger the card, the quicker it will fill the bins! Handing out a relatively small number of expensively produced cards is not the way to drive traffic to your web site. A far more startegic approach is required. Let me know if you need some help.
All the best.

Hi bitsnstuff

Send us an e-mail if you need a quote on printing, you might find that you can afford both.

These people have been recommended to me £98 for a 1000 and they are great (had some sent to me in leaflet/card swap exchange)
