Has anyone else read this http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=195589&d=1032&h=1019&f=1026&dateformat=%25o%20%25B%20%25Y?
I cannot understand the logic in the example quoted at the bottom of Heather the music teacher.
It seems to suggest that because of her own obstinacy, she should be excused from the self assement system?

The example of Heather doesn't seem to have anything to do with the mental health issues referrend to in the rest of the article!
I think being sensitive to the needs of those with mental health issues is essential and I like the take of the article. Shame though, they could have found a much better example.

I see what you mean, but I take the point to be that Taxaid's intervention led to the home visit by HMRC's officers, who could then see for themselves (with whatever "mental health" clues may have been visible), that Heather's lifestyle was not consistent with the determinations of tax which had been made.
Left to her own obstinacy, Heather might, as the article says, have been pursued to bankruptcy.
Anyway, thanks for highlighting the article.

The example is essentially pandering to people with (what may be) mild mental illnesses.
I think we can all appreciate the position this article has been written from.
