Hi All,

Would appreciate your honest feedback on our new idea - which is launching in 2 weeks.

We are starting up a new business start-up support business called JumpStart for Business.

We aim to match new entrepreneurs with established potential Clients/Partners with office space to rent and place them together to encourage trade for 3 months through our JumpStart Matchmaking service.

We will also provide a Business Plan, Website with SEO, Office Services, FREE attendance at Networking and Training events for 3 months that we will run and pro-active account management to encourage Trade.

Would love to see if this is going to be useful for new start-ups and established businesses with space to rent

I think that no matter what people think or have said negatively to you about this venture if your heart is in it you can make it into anything you want and with that desire it can be very profitable.

Good luck and I wish you the best.

My intial thought is that most new businesses will seek business premises through established commercial agents so I just wonder if you will struggle to get a foot hold in the market. You will certainly have a lot of competition.

Also will you not find that most budding entrepeneurs will have completed the business plans etc before seeking business premises?

That said the comment made above is so true.

Good luck with the new venture.

You should also look into grants... in some areas there are huge grants available for business who make space available for self employed people and in the same areas there are grants available for people becoming self employed. I think that access to this funding should be part of your offer also.

Good luck with it all!

Great Advice thanks.

We are really talking about pre-start businesses of which there are tens of thousands - those businesses which have not started yet, maybe gone to the local BusinessLink service but not really formed their formal business plan yet.

We would develop their business plan and give them access to funding in their area and if applicable give them access to our JumpStart matchmaking.

If they already have a plan, need a shop, manufacturing unit etc then these businesses would not be suitable. But most businesses in the UK would be suitable due to the type of work they carry out.

Thanks for advice though - very valid.

You should also look into grants.. in the same areas there are grants available for people becoming self employed.

Any ideas who is offering these grants, and the criteria required?

Well currently North East, North West and Cornwall area are best places to startup a business and access to grants due to funding availability.

Grants are accessed though people like us through the BusinessLink service by working with pre-starts to get funding for Business plans (100% funded)
Websites and SEO (80% funded if pre-start or 50% if raised your first invoice)

Any help you need let me know.

I think this is a good idea.

We have two open plan type offices in San Francisco. We purposely have a few extra desks so we can quickly ramp up with contractors if we have a lot of work coming in. When we do not need these desks we rent them out to small start-ups, contractors or self employed people who want to be in a vibrant/social environment and take advantage of the facilities on offer in an established business.

Quite often we end up working with these occupants in some form or another, or they get spin offs from contacts we may have, or jobs that are not right for us/too small.

We have also benefited through getting referrals from them or pulling them into urgent change-orders or tight deadlines.

Quite often people who are starting out will not want to set up in a vacuum. Going into an established environment, close to people who are aligned in some way is worth a lot. There are two things I like to live my working life by.
1. It is who you know as well as what you know.
2. Collaboration and shared knowledge are key.

Your idea brings that together.

The way we do business is shifting. The scarcity of resources, from customers, money, credit, natural resources and commodities is creating two camps. One who fights to win through exclusion and control, and the other who understand that collaboration, shared resources and sustainable business practices are the only long-term viable solution.

Your story, tone and messaging is going to be crucial to get your message out there. Great idea.

Best of luck

Thanks Alasdair -much appreciated.

Yes its about existing companies having a tough time of it but now trying to make use of their under utilized assets in terms of free space.

I truly believe the same as you in terms of networking and sharing of ideas - I believe that this can generate a huge amount of trade between both businesses and everyone wins.

Will see how our first quarter goes but cant wait to get started.
