Im thinking of sending out posters and cards etc to companys after speaking to them on the phone.
We sell products that their work force use on a daily basis.
We offer good products at good prices.
So do you think its a waste of time do you think they will be binned?
Any suggestions?

It may not be - it depends which market you are in and the competition that you have.
Just make sure you measure the response well - purchase an additonal number, create a "marketing" domain name or a specific landing page to your website, create a specific e-mail address etc
These things will help you determine if it is successful or not.
If when speaking to them you get an e-mail address consider e-mail marketing as well - but always ask if they would like to receive them and include an opt out or unsubscribe link.

What kind of products?
In essence, why should a company spend time distributing your leaflets for you? Most companies work with a tight number of staff and it's likely no one will consider it their role to hand out your promotional literature. It may end up in a staff cantine if you're lucky and someone likes the look of it, but I wouldn't guarantee it.
Sorry to sound negative here, this is just my experience of the companies I've worked in (more than I care to mention!), but also my own. I wouldn't particularly be enamoured about my staff taking time to hand out someone else's literature.
Sorry.

We get brochures, catalogues and fax's sent to us all the time without people speaking to us on the phone.
Ultimately if it’s something I want/need/use and there's an incentive to buy, you've got a sale.

Target your market,
Send some leads the promotional material first then follow the lead up with a call.
Send some leads the promotional material after a call.
Experiment - See what works for you.

You’ll need to make sure you prepare.
