:?: I wonder if any of you skilled IT people can give me your opinions on this please ...

I am looking at how my site has been designed and in particular the width of the home page which currently has a width of over 957 pixels.

I understand that this may require some visitors to have to scroll to the right. What do you you think about visitors having to scroll to the right? Is it a bad design? I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Thanks :)

Personally I hate horizontal scrolling.

29% of your visitors will have to scroll.

Really it won't be that much work to make it a little narrower :) Personally I would go for 800, 850 at a push.

I'd go even lower - a total maximum of 780 but go for 750 if you can.

Do some experiments with monitor resolutions etc and see!

Aye there there is the auto margin issue so it probably best to lob 16 pixels of the width; then at 784 it will sit nice and tight for the 800 brigade :) It's been a while since I moved away from html to CSS, as you can tell :D

i also agree that any kind of horizontal scrolling tends to indicate a home made site rather than a professional one. remember, your website is your main chance to create an impression!!
