Morning All,

Anybody know of any free software which allows the user to open AI files?

Don't need to make any amendments, just need to view and comment on them.

TIA

you can download a free trial of Illustrator. Lasts 30 days. If your images contain fonts that have not been converted to outlines and you try to open the files without having a copy of the font used installed on your machine then Illustrator will substitute the font for something else. Just so as you are aware of that.

I think Inkscape can open AI files and it is free. I've never used it for that purpose so cannot comment on the results but AI files are there as an option for opening a file

Adobe acrobat reader will open them. Just go File>Open and change the option to 'all file types' and it shouldn't have a problem.
