Simple - Yes. If it's a business where people might check it's veracity online, or through a search engine (Google being now what Yellow Pages used to be when it comes to people checking that a business exists and is "legit") then it's always a good idea to have a website and do some internet marketing, SEO etc.
If you're starting it in a year's time, you'd have to think carefully about the content of a site so as not to give away the business idea etc. - but even having a couple of holding pages for "Who we are" and "Contact Us" is better than nothing. If that content's written cleanly/clearly, it'll start to work for you before the business even launches.

I would seriously consider setting up a website and some sort of internet advertising.
I finished my website in January and simply posted a few links on a couple of blogs/forums and a few directories. Considering how little I've done in terms of online advertising, I get a fair bit of business from it.

Steve - Do tell. Which blogs/forums and directories? How much did you spend?
Jonethan - investigate Google Adwords before laying out large amounts for SEO. I did and I'm happy.

Welcome to UKBF.
Yes, you should.
I used to think internet marketing wasn't worth it, but as I've said in other threads in the last couple of months I've had about 8 new clients from UKBF alone.
Like anything, however, you get out what you put in.

Nothing. I never pay for an entry in a directory or any website for that matter. I use directories really to build up my incoming links. Obviously I could get customers if I done some PPC marketing, at the moment I'm happy with my web presence.
Like Ashley said, you get out of it what you put in.
