any thoughts on promotion via shows?

I have been thinking about having a stand at the larger agricultural/County shows near me. Many of them have huge visitor numbers.

I was wondering if any of you more experienced people could give me your thoughts on this as a way of promoting my company. As an internet based company I want to achieve two objectives from attendance at the shows -

1. to sell some stock!!
2. to raise awareness of my company

I'm really thinking about whether the money I would be spending would be better spent elsewhere.

Any thoughts?

You have some beautiful things.

You say you would be attending a country/argiculture show, would this be the correct target audience for your products?
Have you thought of PR?
This would allow you to raise awareness of your business and encourage sales. It would also be more cost effective than attending a show.

You could always see if any of your competitors or similar businesses have tried there, whether they still do etc etc
