It's a long shot, but anyone every come across a designer who would design a logo and if i didnt like it and therefore didnt use it, i dont pay for it?

Have no problem paying for it if its good and I use it.

Most good designers will carry on making adjustments to the design until you're happy.

Any good designer will work with you and look at your business brief and incorporate your aims and goals into the design, also trying to look ahead so your logo stands the test of time rather than just being a fad unless of course you want a fad logo.
Not only that but most designers should have a set list method for creating a logo so it incorporates what you want/need/desire.

Hi

I would recommend you find a logo designer with whom you are really impressed with their style (and no... I am not selling my services as logos are not my main skill!!).

Styles can really vary from designer to designer and like most things what one person thinks is the bees knees for them could be crap for the next client.

Look closely at their portfolio ( a good designer should be able to design for any type of business ) and if you really like them, then get a quote.

Just remember to get in writing about ownership as otherwise you could find yourself paying again to use your own logo (bizarre ... yes but it does happen with larger agencies!)

In some cases its not as bizarre as you think...

Some agencies get the gig based on having total control of the useage, some commisions are based on being accepted to an agency, in other words they pick the client! If their work is widely viewed and tied into marketing and promotional events and campaigns they can control where its used. It might be suitable for Vogue for example, but won't feature on the Super Drug offers leaflet.

The agency will hang their reputation on what they do, so controlling the client, their marketing and production is paramount to doing what they do best.

Fortunately, most design mortals don't do business this way, we care about your business and give a service that respects that, but beware their are plenty that couldn't give a toss and just take the money.

Unfortunate but no surprise that you think this way.

Anyone who has a cracked copy of Photoshop and have done a few tutorials call themselves a "designer". The industry is littered with amateurs.

We are experienced and professional identity/branding design and developers. It takes time and care to communicate the vision through the branding, not just the logo.

Based on this, we ensure all our clients that it will be developed right to the end.

We never have to state "don't like it or don't pay". We just don't work that way because it simply never gets that far...

Is it just me!.. Am surprised at the OP. How can one expect to have someone spend hours, indeed days perhaps, and not expect to pay for it.!!..Payment dependent on a whim?
Amazing!

PS. I am not a designer..web or logo!

As I said here :

Why would anyone want to pay someone to do tutorials or "learn on the job".

One line of thinking as follows:

you go into a shop waste 1 hour of salesman time, you don't like what he shows you leave the shop without obligation. Now, would you go to a shop and what would you say if the salesman tells you I will show you around until you are happy, so you must buy before you leave.

There are lot of kids on forums (not talking about this forum) that think they are designers because as Calibre says they can use some designing software and they feel that they should be paid regardless of the outcome for their time, this I have an issue you.

But as a salesman his job is to broker a deal, if your happy then he's half way there, but to close the deal is another matter. The closing is the designers getting the contract signed to complete the commission, the sales man gets money in the till. If I can't provide what my client want, they walk out the door, without using my service, not say they are unhappy but will borrow the telly (or whatever the saleman is selling) until they find something they want.

As much as I hate "self-taught Design scumbags -STD's for short - and I hate 'em with a passion) even they should be paid for the work they do, its the cement that holds the relationship between provider and buyer together. The caveat to that being, you pay cheap, you deserve and often get cheap and cheerless.

If you want a job doing, pay the rate...
