Hi,
I will be going to a county court soon to defend a small claims action, can anybody give me any pointers on what to expect on the day and any pointers regarding etiquette ?
Thanks

It is quite informal and the Recorder or District Judge will guide you through the hearing. Just address the District Judge as Sir or Madam.
Ensure that you have disclosed any evidence at least 7 days before the hearing. The same applies to the claimant.

As another poster has said its very informal, no fancy dress needed. The district judge will ask the claimant for his side and then you'll be asked yours. You should avoid interrupting, displays of anger or aggression - looking rational and professional before the judge is a big deal.
On the down side most district judges are really crappy and do not understand sophisticated points of law or fact, even in the context of a small claim court - at least that's my own experience :( , you may get lucky.

Just address the District Judge as Sir or Madam.
Whatever you do if it's a gentleman it's sir, if it's a lady it's madam - any other combination may lose you the case :D
I am unsure what to advise if you can't tell.

Take a solicitor with you. You are led to believe that small claims courts are so friendly that you don't need a lawyer. This is cobblers, if you have no professional person with you, the judge and your opposition will without doubt take the mickey, not tell your rights, lie to you, con you, and generally treat you like a piece of dirt.
