Our host hasbeen great - good uptime and support for 10 years, however he sold out to another company, and frankly the after hours support has driven me away - that and that fact that they moved servers recently, didn't tell anyone and we had 48 hours downtime and now have no email - andtey of course closed at 5.30 on Friday.......

I need the following:

Requirements:
Windows server
SQL server 2005 Minimum (NOT MySQL)
CDONTS or other emailing component must be available
web based email access
Site stats
Spam filtering
Ability to move existing domain
24/7 or at least out of hours contact for support (mail server etc)
Online control panel
email accounts - we currently have up to 500 available
FTP Account
Multi site hosting - we currently have ability to host up to 40 domains and 20 sub domains
.NET 3.5 framework available to support ongoing enhancement
Monthyl payment by Direct Debit/Continous Authority
Obviously good uptime!

Any ideas for a host - do we have web hosts in the forum who could offer me a good deal (Currently paying £31.39 per month DD) - can't afford lto more, but would be willing to consider a little more for better support than we are currently getting!

Have a look at http://www.2008hosting.net/Reseller_Web_Hosting.aspx from £7.99/Month

We use MSSQL 2008 64bit works with MSSQL 2005 DB's perfectly.

We don't support CDONTS on W2K8, only W2K3 http://dhosting.co.uk/resellers/reseller-package.html.

CDOSYS and JMail Pro is available on both platforms.

We don't charge for IP Addresses and SSL Certificates are available from £10/Year to resellers if required.

You won't regret your choice - I've just renewed with CS New Media for the third year. Support is superb and quick and I've not had any problems.

I would recommend you to have a look at our Windows reseller plans at http://www.eukhost.com/reseller-hosting.php

We offer Plesk on our Windows hosting plans where you can manage multiple domains and your email accounts. Support is 24x7 via Phone, Helpdesk and Live chat.

I have always used http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ to search for the best deals and the best hosting options. You have most of the reliable guys there and since its a very active forum , everyone who is anyone is out there with offers. You will get a good offer but before doing anything , do a comprehensive search of who is suitable for you.

I go there for all of my needs ( clients as well). Hope that helps.

Left to Right :)

Well i would certainly recommend you to join it then cause as much as all the hosts are there , its a good exposure for a host wanting to expand customer base as well.

However am sure you have your own plans , so thats just a suggestion !

I've been a member of that forum since 2000, I was one of the first ones to join the site. Over the years i've watched it go from being a valuable resource to "kiddy hosts r us", Don't get me wrong some of the sections on there are helpful but the general "Web Host Forum" is just full of American hosts responding to reviews saying "thank you" just to splash a signature with there company website in it.

The forum used to have lot's of helpful people on it, now it's got more spammers than helpers - if your looking for UK hosts your probably better looking at www.webhostchat.co.uk as it's mainly UK providers.

Plus WHC verifies hosts company info and various other details unlike WHT which is a free for all.

I respect the fact that you have a recommendation for a good site as from what i know www.webhostchat.co.uk is also a good site.

However , i disagree with the fact that what u see at WHT is spam as a lot of Uk hosts are present there, and the one i have selected for my own use is also a UK host. They had a solid reputation there , and from my experience they have lived upto it to the toe.

If you do your research there you will find that most hostings are very subjectively discussed with performance metrics ranging from there customer support to there backup systems

Since it is a big forum , yes you have to search well.

I disagree as everything a supposed client claims about sites is moderated by the admin and if it is not held to be true , it is removed. This happens with new postings to prevent a false publicity campaign from progressing. Once a person gains some repute , they do not get questioned on there authority, which makes sense in offline world as well.

What i had recommended was to use WHT as well , not WHT alone. Obviously its an important decision you make , and it warrants proper research before you take the step.

I'm glad you found a good host through WHT :) It's not entirely a bad place, I find the Technical section helpful and try help people in that section but the Web Host Forum section is cluttered with hosts spamming for there own good rather than to help a user. If they we're all so greatful for the reviews posted they would disable there signature for those posts, IMHO :)

And Yes, VaServ have a pretty solid reputation :)

Couldnt help looking into your offering ( hosting) solutions. May i ask whether you offer Windows VPS because my current hosting ( www.innohosting.com) do not offer Windows.

As for your rates, I would say they are very competitive to say the least.

We don't offer any Windows hosting, There are plenty of windows hosts to choose from, What is your budget?

Any reason why you want Windows over Linux?

We chose Linux because we're more comfortable with how it works (not saying windows is hard to manage or anything - We're just Linux fans :)), We'll leave Windows Hosting to those who do it day-in-day out as i'm sure they have the same mindset for Linux hosts :)

Well the reason i need a windows vps is that we need to run .net apps on them .

I am a hardcore LAMP fan myself and definitely prefer to develop on everything Open Source , however at the end if the client wants something done otherwise, we prefer to stick to there requirements.

The budget is around 25-30 quids a month

Would shared windows hosting do the job?

I dont have any probs in running it on a shared server but the client is a little over the top about security and since it is a financial application , he wanted to go for a dedicated server.

Managed to bring him down to a vps based on cost/security advantages and considering that technically a vps is as secure as a dedicated system ( from the external entities).

Could you PM over some details on what the application does exactly.

Technically yes practically not always :) Depends on the virtualisation engine being used and the host system config.

I completely agree that it depends on the config, my point being it is possible to configure it to be secure enough.

Shall PM the details of the app. Thanks
